Incident Overview
A liquor store on Western Avenue in Chicago was burglarized early in the morning around 3:00 AM. Up to six suspects, using stolen vehicles, targeted the store in a coordinated robbery.
Method of Entry
The suspects used sophisticated tactics to gain entry. They blocked a portion of the street, hitched a chain to a car, and used the vehicle to tear down the security shutters. They then broke the glass door to enter the store.
Theft and Damage
Once inside, the suspects stole a significant amount of inventory. The front door of the store was boarded up following the burglary. The crime was described as bold and planned, with the suspects taking several minutes to complete the theft.
Broader Impact
This liquor store was not the only target. The same group of burglars hit more than four businesses, using several stolen cars. They targeted locations along Ashland Avenue in the city and extended their operations to some suburbs as well.
Community and Police Response
The community expressed sadness and a commitment to support the affected business owners. Chicago Police Department (CPD) is currently reviewing surveillance video to identify the suspects. No arrests have been made so far.
