Charges Filed Against Convicted Felon
A convicted felon, Corderro Thompson, has been charged with multiple felony counts, including murder, attempted murder, and attempted armed robbery in the killing of Cook County Sheriff’s Deputy Raphael Wardlaw. Incident Details
The incident occurred around 1:25 AM on Tuesday morning. Deputy Wardlaw and a friend stopped at a gas station in the 500 block of East 67th Street in Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood. Thompson attempted to rob Wardlaw with two guns and fired at least 69 rounds. Deputy Wardlaw returned fire from his vehicle, striking Thompson in the leg.
Thompson’s Arrest
Thompson fled the scene and sought treatment at two different hospitals, providing false information and a fake alias. He was arrested within three hours of the shooting.

Sheriff Dart spoke at the press conference, expressing the community’s grief over the senseless gun violence that claimed Deputy Wardlaw’s life. Wardlaw was set to celebrate his 32nd birthday next week. His family is now coping with the loss of their loved one.
