Robbery Charges and Surveillance Footage
Clarence Esteen, a 31-year-old man, has been charged with robbing three fast food restaurants in Oakland last Friday. Surveillance video captured Esteen attacking and robbing two women later that same day.
Release from Prison and Reduced Sentence
District Attorney Pamela Price confirmed that Esteen was released from prison just days before the incident. He was originally sentenced to 30 years to life in prison at the age of 16, but his sentence was reduced under state law. Esteen’s release came after he applied through the public defender’s office, and his petition was granted by a superior court.
Potential Additional Charges and Reentry Program
D.A. Price mentioned that additional charges might be pending related to the assaults. She also stated that, despite this incident, the county’s reentry unit has generally been successful in helping former inmates become productive members of society.
