HOUSE RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING PROMOTIONAL VALUE OF FREE RADIO AIRPLAY NOW HAS 79 CO-SPONSORS
— 79 members of U.S. House oppose RIAA-backed fees on local radio —
WASHINGTON, DC — Twenty-six additional lawmakers have added their name to the list of co-sponsors supporting a bipartisan resolution recognizing the promotional value of free radio airplay. The resolution, introduced in late October, now has 79 co-sponsors including its authors, Reps. Gene Green (D-TX) and Mike Conaway (R-TX).
Congress should not impose any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge relating to the public performance of sound recordings on a local radio station for broadcasting sound recordings over-the-air, or on any business for such public performance of sound recordings,” read House Concurrent Resolution 244.
Considered the Academy Awards of the car industry, the 12th Annual Urban Wheel Awards (UWA) will be held on January 15, 2008 at one of the nation’s largest theatre, Detroit’s crown jewel, the Fox Theatre.
