Oscar Studio Vendôme Hires Kathryn Thal

Academy Award-winning studio, Vendôme Pictures (CODA) has appointed Kathryn Thal as the Senior Vice President of Development and Production. Thal will be based in Los Angeles and further expand the Paris based company’s connection with the U.S. market, enhancing their strong track record as a leading global independent production company. 

In this new role at Vendome Pictures, Thal will oversee all english-language film and television projects from the development stage to production and delivery. Thal will report to Vendôme founder, chairman and CEO Philippe Rousselet and co-CEO Fabrice Gianfermi, effective immediately.

Thal comes to Vendôme Pictures from Black Bear, where she was a Vice President and worked closely with the global production and management teams. In this role, Thal was part of the producing team for Scott Frank’s “Monsieur Spade” starring Clive Owen and also worked closely on developing projects with Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game, “Silo”), Johan Renck (“Chernobyl”) and Kyle Killen (Halo”). Prior to Black Bear, Thal worked at Anonymous Content building out and servicing international co-ventures and sourcing project-related opportunities. Thal also previously worked at Hunting Lane as Manager of Development and started her career at ICM Partners, HBO and Netflix.

I have collaborated on a number of projects with Vendome over the years and have always admired Philippe’s creative instinct and dedication to character-driven yet commercial storytelling. I’m looking forward to progressing and helping to build their slate of global TV and film projects.”

Vendôme is best known for producing CODA which won three Oscars at the 2022 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The company is currently in pre-production on Andrew Niccol’s Lords Of War starring Academy award-winner Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgård, the follow-up to the critically-acclaimed cult classic, Lord Of War.  The Academy Award-winning studio has also recently acquired the remake rights to produce a scripted adaption of the award-winning human rights documentary A Fire Within.  In addition, Vendôme Pictures and Pathé are working with Tony Award®-winning Deaf West Theatre to develop the stage musical adaptation of the film and recently announced Ibelin which will be directed by Morten Tyldum.
